Hi guys. Finished my Broomstick F-16 flying demo. It uses a a simple
large plane for the terrain and the motion effect is all done by
scaling and offsetting the UV values of the terrain while the airplane
remains stationary. I kind of stumbled on the effect by accident. It
solves a couple of problems automatically- the horizon looks pretty
natural which was a big problem when I actually moved the F-16 higher
along the y axis, and the scaling handles the apparent speed vs
altitude issue. Try it out and let me know how it runs on your
machines since I only tested it on my desktop so far. Use the mouse to fly. The UV Scale approximates altitude. It’s Broomstick
so you need the FP 11 installed to run it.

Holy crap, thats incredible!

Choons, if you are interested in having this demo shown as an official Away3D demo at conferences etc, please get in contact off-list. I’m sure there would be a few people interested in that.

of course, if you could shoot stuff, that would be even better wink

cheers

Rob

wow thanks, Rob! Hell yeah I’ll get in touch. I went ahead and posted it as is once I got the UV scrolling around right, but I think I can actually get some rolling hills elevation on the terrain plane as well. And definitely those missiles will be firing soon ; ) The F-16 model needs some touch up work, and I’ll pop an Away3D decal on it somewhere. That’d be really fun if you guys use it as a demo some time. I’m freakin loving making stuff with Away3D cheese
