Hi There,

I’m newbie around here and I was looking all the discussion in this topic and here (http://away3d.com/forum/viewthread/955/). I got your point. But what would you recommend to import animation + mesh/geometry from 3DsMax to away3D 4.0?

Kind regards

I know this is beta, but using two separate exporters that are really old and don’t properly support animations for non skinned objects it presenting us with a lots of issue.
We tried exporters for Blender and Maya as well and the scripts provided in the source trow errors.

I understand a programmer not wanting to support a complex exporter, but the current work flow for Away 3d is tough, if not brutal.
Right now compared to Unity for Instance, the engine this is most likely to compete with, this work flow is next too impossible with all the errors and different python version and a pretty complete lack of documentation. I ama max user so obviously frustrated as an artist that works with Unreal and Unity, but even our Maya and Blender folks could not get any exports out using the most current scripts.
And 3ds and the M5K format are not working in Max2012 with our files.
Any idea if this will improve?

Just a question, without having studied the 4.0 code, what would be so difficult in just adapting the old Collada parser/loader to 4.0, with the same features it did have back then?

The format or models hasn’t changed, just possibly Away3D’s internals for representing the model/animation. Are those structures now incompatible, or what? Because what I think most people want is not a perfect full-featured Collada parser, but just the basic support available in 3.x to start with.

Naively I would have guessed it would be fairly simple, but I’m assuming that there is some big show stopper somewhere? Curious to know what.
