Hello,

I am new here.
I have been developing for flash / actionscript since around 10 years, but never did anything with away 3d.

Now i got a client who contacted me for a special project.
It would require building a sort of “rubix cube” made from 27 cubes with content ( video, pictures naviatiional items ) on each side.
using multitouch gestures the user has to be able to turn the cube and zoom into its parts ( take it apart move it around ).
the whole shabang needs to be in full HD and good looking ( no jagged lines et cetera ).

Now my question:
Is this possible performancewise with away3d?
I looked at some examples already but did not find anything with a similar profile.

Thanks a lot for your interest and any help and pointers.

have a good one!

Away 3D should be perfectly fine for what you want, the only issue might be with the video textures, having multiple video textures could seriously bog down your CPU depending on the resolution/how many videos you are playing simultaneously.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

yes, i guessed the multiple video thingy is quite a hit on the performance.
maybe there is a way to work around that a bit.

I also looked into flare3d which has some pretty inpressive examples.
do you have any experience on the simplicity of flare3d vs. away3d ?
especially under the circumstances that there might not be too much time for performance optimizations until the deadline.

thanks again.

Flare3D is certainly easier to use - of course at a cost.

In terms of performance though they are comparable and any time spent “optimizing” would be roughly equivalent.

You mean cost in terms of monies or cost of performance?

Thanks
