We have been following the Away3d and Physics engine dev for several years and had started a new project using it in the Summer.

We have deadlines to meet though and with this final straw so we are now switching to Unity.

Best of luck to you guys, hopefully someone will buy Adobe and sort them out.

Hey Guys

Just an update to say that we are actively participating in discussions with Adobe surrounding Alchemy atm, and hope to have more info on what to expect soon.

We completely understand that some of you may be put off using Away Physics as a result of lack of information at this time, but we are doing everything we can to rectify this. Certainly, the plans for the next generation of Alchemy sound very interesting and useful, but the detail we are waiting on surrounds the way this new technology will be licensed to developers and corporations by Adobe.

We will update you on the situation as soon as we are able to provide a clearer picture regarding the future of Alchemy for Flash

Talks are continuing but unfortunately we cannot yet reveal anything about Adobe’s stance on Alchemy or how they will be charging for the updated version.

We will be updating this thread just as soon as we can, in the meantime please hang in there!

Can you at leat advise as to whether or not we should be using AwayPhysics for production work?

I second this post. Is it smart to continue working with AwayPhysics for production work?

Yeah, it’s nervous time.  I really want to demo a game we made using Away Physics to a client, but I’m kind of worried that 11.2 will hit and it’ll just die.

So as long as here is no decision by adobe on this topic, does it even make sense to use awayphysics?
How much do you think it would cost to get an alchemy license for a project?

what do you guys do?
Use jiglib?
any other ideas?

I am wondering the same thing. I have a requirement for a 3D + physics game but I’ll keep that on hold until I know which physics lib to use with Away3D.

But after being with Flash since FutureSplash 2.0, with each week that passes my desire to continue as a Flash games developer gets less and less, well done Adobe.

Quote from an adobe employee a couple of days ago

We should be announcing more details over the next couple of weeks.

John, I was literally just coming to post that message.

He also notes that Unreal was ported using Alchemy 2 which means it’s around and in use.

I honestly don’t understand why all the secrecy but I’m feeling better that this will be resolved around the time that Flash 11.2 comes out.

Yeah knew about the unreal thing, lots of people playing guessing games on the certificate signing thing after that demo was posted.

As a side note Jiglib was updated for away beta today.

That made me panic a bit, but Ringo assures me there not dropping bullet.
I’ll wait smile

Have you tried using JigLib and Away?  How does it compare with bullet?

Not since the fp10 days with a single core cpu. :(
Was easy enough to use though.

Ran the demos today and never dropped below 60 for me.
