Edit.
Note this no longer applies to fp 11.2.202.228

Just a warning to others.

FlashPlayer 11.2
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11-2.html

Will not work with the physics lib.

Why
http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2011/09/updates-from-the-lab.html

The standalone players work but not the browser plugins will not.

So whats the plan devs? :o

Has anyone confirmed this with Adobe?  I must say, their communication skills are awful, so I would not be surprised if they are wording things in such a way as to be misunderstood.

But if true, man, are they TRYING to kill Flash?

It is true. I see it in the labs page and in the blog.

They want to integrate it in the “commercial product”, so basicly they are saying: “it’s a success, so we are going to make use of it to make money,” and “and therefore, we are going to stop supporting it now, so we can call it an update later”.

Which basicly sucks cause it kills of AwayPhysics I think in FP versions after 11.1

pff…

But I’m unclear how this would work.  Doesn’t Alchemy simply convert code into AS3?  How would the Flash player recognize a swc as Alchemy based?  And I wonder how much Flash content would simply cease to work?  Is that really what they mean?  Or will they figure out a way to phase in the new Alchemy tools with less…overt hostility…to their developers?  grin

I mean, we just launched two games using Away Physics.  So we’ll have to scrap them as soon as 11.2 comes out?

One other thought that I haven’t tried yet since I’m away from my dev machine.  It looks like 11.2 is available as a Beta.  Has anyone tried to install the 11.2 player and then run content with Away Physics?  Does it still work, or does it crash or fail in some way?

A1 was never presented as a production ready project…
Since it’s out there, 2 or 3 years I think, and it’s so helpfull/efficient for performance oriented projects and widely adopted, one can argue you can’t break stuff people builded on and with it, just like that.
Obviously they don’t.

Aside the technical impacts, we are waiting for information regarding the licencing. If A2 is free for non-commercial use and requires a payed licence for commercial use. How will this affect us?

We’ll keep you informed guys.

Thanks Fabrice!

I have to say, I’m getting a little tired of having at least one day a week devoted to getting some bad news from Adobe.

Thanks Fabrice!

And totally agree with you Alex…. It’s like they don’t want us to use their products…

Beware, it seems the accountants have taken control of the Flash roadmap.

I tried install the 11.2 beta and play my AwayPhysics based project, and it works as usual.

Maybe adobe will kill it when 11.2 is in final release.

I took the test today, using all the power of awayphysics and the flash does not work with 11.2.
No compatibility mode was implemented by adobe flash brings the following error:

RangeError: Error # 1506: The specified range is invalid.
at cmodule.AwayPhysics: FSM__start / work ()
at cmodule.AwayPhysics: CRunner / work ()
at cmodule.AwayPhysics: CLibInit / init ()

has Adobe even contacted you guys (Rob, Fab, Ringo) about this yet?? Surely they were completely aware that the Away physics engine depends on this. Considering that Away3D is the best damn free advertising Flash has EVER had, this is unbelievably shabby of Adobe.
