I have download some free 3DS file in internet.
It was working in Away3d 3.6 and PreFab3D (http://www.closier.nl/prefab/)

When when I try to use Away3d 4.0 then it always failed as it show as null object error everywhere.

I just use the example from Away3d the file is “Basic_Load3DS.as” just change the 3DS path and the texture path.

the error i got:

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Try this…
http://videometry.net/away3d/tank/

I opened it in 3D Studio MAX and removed the camera.
I think this is what was making it fail.

Then I’ve just scaled it to the same size as the ant :O)

Attached is the adjusted model.

Good Luck!

Thanks for that. Where is the attachment as you say?

I don’t think everyone have 3D Studio MAX or similar software to edit the 3D files. People may buy 3D files from web or from other designer company.

If the current Away3D 4.0 can handling that type of problems, it will be good, before Away3D 3.6 can do it, I believe new version can do more better.

Some test 3D files from old version Away3d examples also having the same problem.

(attachment should be there now, don’t know what happened…)

You are right ofcouse, the software should be able to parse data from any source. In reality that can be tricky. The parser in Away3d is called the “Max3DSParser” suggesting it is intended for use for 3DS generated by MAX, though I could be wrong. If the same model parses properlly in Away3D 3.6, you may want to submit a bug in 4.0 parser.

Cheers!

Just have a test on alternativa3D on them Alternativa 3D Player.
http://a3dplayer.com/

It looks good there with the files for testing. Hope Away3d can do some file testing like that.

I use your way: opened files in 3D Studio MAX and removed the camera.

it works fine, but when I updated Away3D to new version, it failed to load 3DS again. Even I use your Tank.3DS
