Looks like there is a way to do it, just not sure if this can be mixed with Away3D 4.

looks like Deferred shading is used here.

hope we will be able to do this in away one day.

It’s a 2D post-processing effect. It uses the multipass approach briefly mentioned in http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems3/gpugems3_ch13.html (2nd paragraph in section 13.8).
