Hello Away3D team and community!
Last few months I was prototyping my game using Away3D 4.1.6 and stuck on a problem - I can’t get almost any animated 3D model into Away through any formats (MD5, 3ds, COLLADA).. There are always errors or the mesh is getting deformed.
Looks like without FBX support workflow is almost unbearable.
P.S.:
Tried this free simplest model also
http://opengameart.org/content/animated-archer
and failed with various export/import scripts..

I too would love to see FBX support added, but if I remember correctly there are some licensing issues with support FBX? It’s been a while since I looked into it…

Your model works fine to me. Animations and all.

Hello, Bolt!
Could you please tell me what exporter are you using and to what format are you exporting to import it into Away3D? (I am using katsbits MD5 script)
Did you edit the file before exporting in Blender?

I wrote my own exporter script for Blender. Works for Blender v2.66 and up.
I then import that into my own program, and export it directly to AWD format.
I made the material double-sided, so you could see bow string on both sides, but other than that, I didn’t change a thing in Blender. Exported ‘as is’.
There are alternative ways to get your model into Away3D if you really want it.

Well, i really want it, my project progress depends on it.
So you are using your own format between blender and awd.. Any chance you could share it? :D

You can find the Blender script I used here, under Plugins:
http://unwrap3d.com/u3d/downloads.aspx
Select “Blender (XML)”.
And here’s the AWD model I exported. See forum attachment.

Just tried Unwrap3D, and it’s great! With it, I can export any .blend mesh with skeleton and animations to AWD format! Did not try with other formats yet, but I think it works same way.
