Best practice for bringing in Cinema4d files

Hi all

We’ve got a whole batch of 3D content created in (a fairly old version of) Cinema4D, and I’m struggling to find an effective way to import them into Away3d.
The only method I’ve found that works ok is to export them as 3ds files (I’m using the unlocked demo version of C4D), but in the process I lose a lot of the original information - for example, none of the materials come in with any of their settings intact, the mesh names are all truncated in unpredictable ways and the parent-child structure is flattened.
I can probably work around it, but is there a better pipeline from C4D into Awd I could use instead?

Thanks
Danny
