Shadows for large scenes

Hi guys! I’ve two questions.

The first is:
Is it possible for “light.shadowMapper.depthMapSize” to be independent on “view.camera.lens.far”? I mean, for small scenes everything is fine. But I have crude shadows for wide field of view (lens.far > 7000), so relatively small objects loose their own shadows.

And the second one:
When a shadow-casting object isn’t inside the view of camera, its shadow fully disappears. For small walk-around I’ve tried to slice the incident mesh on many sub-meshes. But I have no success to see the desired result.

Please help me.

Last day I founded some information in interest:

1) David Lenaerts at the 6th of October (2011) wrote: “Partial shadow mapping for large view frustra (coming soon)”. That’s what I really need!
2) Well, then at this forum one man said about “non-existent PartialDirectionalShadowMapper and NearShadowMapMethod” while compliling one of away3d examples (actually I don’t know what example it really is).
3) It seems that AwayRacer demo uses PartialDirectionalShadowMapper class, because shadows exist even if incident object isn’t visible.

So “PartialDirectionalShadowMapper” exists, but where is it? GIT’s “dev” branch has only standard DirectionalShadowMapper within the “lights/shadowmaps” folder.

Away3d team, please share this class.

I tried new Away3d 4(beta) from git. Great! smile Shadows are visible while shadow caster is out of the camera’s field o view. But crude shadows for large areas is still an issue.

I agree. Shadows are not usable in real-world situations for now because of that. It is a serious issue.

@Kurono The Git Branch in which these classes are is not public yet. We’ll release once the branch is stabile enough.

No ETA.
