Slow rendering of intersectong obejcts

Hello,
I recently developed a 3D application with Away3D, a kind of set of exercises in Physics for students in the field of electrostatics.
In this interactive app. one needs to move 3D cubes through space where spheres and others primitives are also present, and I used Renderer.INTERSECTING_OBJECTS to be solve the possible inter-penetration of these solids.
If I well understood, the meshes of the intersecting primitives are redefined all the time in order to solve the intersection issues.
My problem is that with only a few primitives on the scene the simulation gets rather slow; is there a specific way to use this particular renderer ? Does anyone has experience with such issue ?
