I’m conducting a test: http://www.lucid.it/test
You will need Flash Player 11.2.

By using the mouse wheel, you can move the camera’s z-axis to move into and outside the sphere. However, there is a bug - when the camera (or sphere for that matter) is a significant distance from the sphere a black hole begins to form in the center of the screen. Currently the mouse wheel adjusts the camera z axis but I have also tried moving the sphere’s (mesh) z-axis as well. The same errors arises.

What is this and how can I remove / fix it?

I am using Away3D 4.0 (and Flash Player 11.2)

This “black hole” is called the far plane. Change the camera.lens.far value.
