Hello everyone!

I was wondering if it is possible to use Away3D technology to visualize 3D finite element meshes and results, that is, 3D meshes from CAE softwares.
Do you think Away3D would be a straightforward way to do that?

Many thanks in advance,
Giovanni.

What are the possible output formats from your software?
I find .obj the most predictable, and 3DS the most compressed. If you can’t export directly to one of these formats, you may be able to use another program to convert, for example Blender, or MeshLab (both free).

Good Luck!

Thank you very much, theMightyAtom, for the valuable hints!

I think if I understand format .OBJ format I can export the results of my software so that the Away3D can process and display graphically. My idea is to have graphics embedded in my application, a window more or less similar to the MeshLab’s, but with a gradient of colors that mean something in terms of engineering results (stresses, strains, etc.). Do you think Away3D would be the ideal technology for this?

Many thanks in advance,
Giovanni.

Most definately smile

I’d be tempted to make an AS3 program to read the raw data in (depending on what type it is) and produce a mesh on the fly. That way you could animate results over time, without having to download multiple morph targets.
Just a suggestion. Of course it depends on the volume and complexity.
