Maya/Max/Blender -> AWD pipeline… Is there a definitive guide somewhere?

Sooo… I have access to Max 2013, Maya 2011, and Blender 2.71 (and previous) on widows but have still yet to find a solution to exporting skeleton animations either directly to awd, ideally for multiple meshes/skeletons, or to md5 and then converting to awd in prefab 3d.

Seems I need to compile pyAWD in order for the maya exporter to work, surely someone has already compiled this for x86/x64 somewhere?

I’ve scoped around the forums a fair bit for info on this, and although there are quite a few posts, I’m getting nowhere. It seems like the kind of topic that there should be a definitive tutorial page on somewhere, which collates all the existing information…

Hello there,

I agree, some better 3DS Max/Blender pipeline tutorials would be nice. I think that goes for the whole Away3d project to be honest, though I guess the developers are very busy, so it can’t really be helped. There are some tutorials out there, but they all seem out of date.

I don’t know much about Blender, but you can download the AWD exporter plugin for 3DS Max here.  It comes with instructions, though it did take me a while to get it working properly.  It’s still in development and there are various issues with it. For instance, you need to do a bit of a hack to get translation animations to work.

I hope that helps,
Yan

Hey

yes. i am very busy on dev for the AWD stuff. But developing plugins for all the packages is quite a task, and i have to learn a lot.
Making docs and tuts for stuff that is still wip is a nightmare.

For 3dsmax export:
The 3dsmax exporter found here:
https://github.com/awaytools/AwayExtensions-3dsmax/releases
is acutally working quite stable for most of AWD2.1 Features.

It will be released on awaytools.com as soon as we have done proper docs and tutorials + solved the last few issues.

For maya exporter: i have been working on a maya exporter for a while, but never shared any of that. I had to stop dev on this for some time, but in klast days i revisited the project, and i think in next weeks i will have something ready to share.

For Blender exporter: That is definitv on my list, but i havnt done much about it yet. When i looked into it, i encountered some strange issues, so i let it be for now. But as it is a free package, i definitv will give it a higher priority in future. (but also i dont know much about blender…).

For C4D exporter: Thats the first exporter i did. it has lots of small issues, so i want to refactor/rewrite it. For static object it works quite well, but for animated objects, the setup is quite complicated, and lots of small traps…

If anyone likes to contribute to development, i am always happy.
contribution in writing docs / recording tutorials or setting up example scenes etc is also very welcome.
