Layering bitmaps into one texture???  Possible???

Is it possible to layer two bitmap assets into one texture?  For instance can i use one bitmap as the base of the texture and overlay some graphics from another bitmap over the first layer?

I figured it out by using flash draw bitmapdata, with blend mode and colortransformations to create a new asset that is passed to the material of the mesh.
