Discouraging….no way to unload???

Getting ready to start a project that will need to allow the user to change the model.  For instance the user will select buttons to change the object based on their selections.  I’ve been reading thru the forums and getting the impression that this is not possible (which I can’t believe).

So my question is how would you swap out a model or turn parts off/on (invisible/visible).  Can you unload a mesh and reload a new mesh?  Can you hide/unhide a mesh?  I’ve seen posts that say dispose is the only way but doesn’t that unload all meshes at once?

This seems like a basic operation that games would need…swap out a gun for another type of weapon etc.

Any help to this newbie would be appreciated!  I’m hoping the discouraging posts were from older versions of away3d.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can hide, unhide, dispose, whatever you would need.
I’ve made floor planners with 100’s of objects and had no problem.
What posts are you reading??

You can use the mesh.dispose method and mymesh.visible = true/false
No probs, you can make your game :O)

Good Luck!

That’s good to know.  I looked at floor planners!  Really awesome.  I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how you would do that without any of the above methods.  Guess you were, in fact, using them, ha!

Thanks for the response…good to know I can jump in and do it now.  I’m sure there will be a million other questions.  This is my first away3d project and it is ambitious.

Thanks, again!
