Away3D Temple: version 1.9.4 released!
February 23rd, 2008
If your looking for somewhere to relax (and I know we are!) after a hard day coding with Away3d, then why not try the latest online virtual-zen environment: The Away3d Temple
The beautiful ambient music is composed by Atom(bang)
This demo weights only 204 kb with fully code generated meshes, and combines Flash’s power to reuse, alter, and mix sources with the latest Away3d tools.

We are busy building tutorials and the source of this demo will be available soon across a series of posts in a new section of the away3d site.
Many of the new features in the latest Away3d version are present in this demo, which is part of the reason it will be used as an extended tutorial. A full feature update will be announced on our mailing list, but the highlight additions include:
- new AnimatedBitmapMaterial for processor-saving animations
- new extrusions classes for creating many different shapes on the fly
- new BitmapFileMaterial for automatic loading of a material
- added autoloading textures functionality in collada and 3ds importers
- new extended 3ds importer
- added 2d rotation on Sprite2d and Sprite2DDir
- new importer for google sketchup (kmz) files
- improved md2 importer
- added md2 animated to as3 exporter
The 1.9.4 source has been tagged and can be downloaded from the svn repository, or as a zip file from the Away3d downloads section.
If you would like to follow the progress of future Away3d updates, please feel free to join our mailing list
Hope you enjoy!

That’s really great !
Do you know if Adobe is interested to put Away3D in the next flash or flex version ?
Do you think Away3d is the best rendering engine compared to Papervision or Sandy ?
I think you are the best ;-)
Best regards,
Nikouf

I think, if you add features of program texture generating
(for instance like it is in http://www.theprodukkt.com/kkrieger ) the size can be reduced in two times

Hello,
Any getting started for dummies instructions? I’d like to evaluate this by getting a sketchup model on the screen and rotating, or doing a walk-through.

The source are not available. Not because I don’t want to share, but because it uses a code not compatible with the public version of Away, many classes added to Away were developed doing this demo. All the improved classes are in the trunk. For this demo only 3 classes were used: SegmentsExtrude, Lathe and Skin. The Lathe class got already a dedicated tutorial you can find on this site. I hope be able soon add tutorials covering the other two. For technical help, just join our group and hundreds of developers will probably provide you all the help you need if necessary.

Thank’s Fabrice! The point was just that i was planning to develop something very similar to what this demo shows and i just needed to look at it to see how it was structured and how the different things where putted together…. but your information regarding the classes used is already a good starting point i think… probably i will join the group of developer as you suggested in order to have further help and info…
Regards…
